Total Kenya plc has launched new packaging for its entire range of lubricants that comes with new colours, new labels, and a more ergonomic design with an aim to maintain a distinctive design for consumers to identify Total Lubricants easily.

In addition to these design developments, Total Lubricants contributes to the Group’s ambition to become the responsible energy major. “A reduction in the weight of packaging will prevent the emission of 9,500 tons of CO2 equivalent* each year resulting to raw materials savings.

The new Lubricants packaging will be unveiled by the Kenyan long-distance runner and marathon record-holder Eliud Kipchoge who is Total Kenya’s brand partner.

“We have always offered products that are customer centric,” said Olagoke Aluko, Managing Director, Total Kenya PLC. “But today’s consumer needs customized information about products and how to use them, this has led us to innovate and redesign our lubricants packaging by giving them a new shape, color and label. We have achieved our goal, and the results are at par with our lubricant’s performance — in other words, excellent!”

Packages at the forefront of innovation

The Total Lubricants package upgrade is a major step forward incorporating innovative features that reinforce the proven authenticity of Total products.

Consumers can now identify the product they need immediately, with the new color coding: Platinum for top-tier, Silver for mid-tier and Bronze for entry range products. Buyers can zoom in on the product they need by checking the new label, which is much clearer and easier to read.

Unique labels designed to look like a car dashboard

The essential product information curves around the brand name, similar to a car dashboard, displaying the viscosity, manufacturer approvals and a QR code that can be used to confirm the product’s authenticity in a flash. It’s a product label unlike any other and an advancement in relaying information about Total lubricants.

Better ergonomics for an enhanced customer experience

The new packs offer a new design with a more ergonomic handle that makes it easier to carry and a tamper proof cap functionally redesigned to make it easier to fill the oil sump during oil change or oil top up service.

The new packages are being rolled out gradually as from last year December in every Total service station and authorized distributor outlet across the country and beyond.

NAIROBI, 20TH AUGUST 2019: Total Kenya Plc in partnership with Toyota Kenya Ltd have announced a three-month skill-based competition targeted at jua kali mechanics dubbed “Total Quartz Golden Spanner Competition” scheduled to run from mid-August to November 2019.
Mechanics from across the country will battle it out for the grand prize of a brand-new Toyota Hilux single cab pickup valued at Sh3 million. The first and second runners up will obtain Sh500, 000 and Sh250, 000 respectively to help further grow their businesses.


“The Total Quartz Golden Spanner Competition’’ aims to equip the entrants with skills in a number of vehicle diagnostic and service areas. The entrants in the first round of the competition will take part in four elimination challenges namely: Tool Challenge, Spark plug Challenge, Oil filter Challenge, QuickFire Challenge. Successful participants in the first round will proceed to the second round of the competition which will be held in 14 regions across the country,” said Mr. Arvinder Reel, Managing Director at Toyota Kenya.

The competition which will feature three stages taking place at selected Toyota service outlets nationwide and the grand finale at the Toyota Kenya Academy in Nairobi.


“The second round will be rolled out at Toyota Kenya dealer workshops in the regions where the mechanics will be tested on theory and practical evaluations that will be facilitated by the Toyota Kenya Academy training instructors. Three candidates will then be shortlisted to attend the finals in Nairobi at Toyota Kenya Academy (TKA). The finals will run for 5 days, where the contestant will go through various elimination challenges, that will see 10 compete for the grand prize,” added Mr. Reel.

“Mechanics buying any of our TOTAL QUARTZ Engine Oil brands will obtain a scratch Coupon with a shortcode that will be required to send to 40740. Upon sending the shortcode, the contestant will be sent two sets of questions which he/she will be required to respond to. The contestant will be awarded points based on the number of correct answers given with those having the highest score getting a ticket into the competition,” said Managing Director of Total Kenya Mr. Olagoke Aluko.

“In addition to getting a chance to win the grand prize, the competitors will further hone their mechanic skills and knowledge in automotive servicing and repairs which will help grow their individual start-ups or businesses,” added Mr. Aluko
Toyota Kenya Managing Director also added that the Total Quartz Golden Spanner Competition for mechanics also aims to build self-reliant young people who embrace blue-collar jobs and create opportunities for them and secure bright futures and maximize through maximizing on their potential.

According to the economic survey 2019 by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, the contribution of self-employment to household income is at 1.9 percent and 6.2 percent for rural and urban areas respectively. A big number of this group is engaged in the jua kali sector and other Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
