It is no doubt that Kenya is fast becoming Africa’s technology hub with the creation of several technology incubation centres such as NaiLab, iHub, Nairobi Garage and many more located in Nairobi which was recently named Africa’s Smartest City.

With hundreds of application to boot and world changing innovations such as M-Pesa, Kenya is definitely on the map.

The tech-revolution is not just happening in Nairobi alone, Kisumu too is claiming it’s share of innovation space. Early this year, Kisumu launched it’s first ever technology incubation center – LakeHub located at the 2nd floor of Harleys Building on Oginga Odinga Streeth where tech enthusiast hone and build the next generation ideas that will transform this country and maybe the world’s tech space.

Today we can celebrate the first ever product of LakeHub – MobiDawa a mobile phone prescription application that is already available on GooglePlay.

The application that allows user to search for dosage and other prescription information about different drugs was created by LakeHub Co-ts Founder James Odede a young tech enthusiast who graduated from Maseno University last year and instead of seeking the elusive employment journey decided to use his skills to be an employment creator.

James believes that this application will have a positive impact on the lives of millions of people globally and reduce cases of wrong drug prescriptions.

“Many patients in Kenya suffer because they have limited access to information on how to take their medication right. Even if you are not such a patient or if you don’t know someone who has experienced problems with this you should still care. Why? Because these problems affect us all by driving up our societies healthcare bill as this lack of information leads to more sick patients, an increased number of hospitalizations and so on,” Says James in a statement.

“We at MobiDawa believe that there should be a better way for patients access information about the drugs they are taking. That is why we have build the MobiDawa app to solve that problem by giving patients the information they need at their fingertips,” he continued.

Apart from the dosage, the application also provides drug uses, side effects and precautions.

We hope that this is just but one of the first milestones for the Kisumu tech community.

Kisumu County has set aside Ksh. 100 million for ICT development and putting up ICT infrastructure and it is my hope that the government will use part of that money in building the capacity of Kisumu innovators such as the ones being incubated at LakeHub and even use their skills as we attempt to put our region in the digital map.
