Hold onto your hats, tech enthusiasts! Huawei is gearing up to drop a bombshell on September 10, just a day after Apple’s grand reveal. The Chinese tech titan is set to unveil a premium smartphone that promises to shake up the market.

Richard Yu, Huawei’s consumer group chief, hinted on a community forum about a “most leading, innovative and disruptive product” that’s been five years in the making. While Yu kept the details under wraps, Bloomberg spilled the tea, suggesting it’s the “world’s first” tri-fold handset. Imagine a tablet-sized display folding neatly into a regular smartphone—sounds like sci-fi, right?

Yu described this upcoming marvel as an “epoch-making product that others have thought of, but cannot make.” Bold words, indeed!

But that’s not all. Rumor has it, Huawei is also prepping to launch the Aito electric vehicle. Details are scarce, but it’s clear Huawei is not just stopping at smartphones.

This tri-fold wonder is set to intensify Huawei’s rivalry with Apple, which is about to unveil the AI-powered iPhone 16. IDC data shows Apple’s growth in China has slowed due to fierce competition, with Huawei reclaiming the top spot earlier this year.

Let’s not forget, Huawei’s journey hasn’t been smooth sailing. US trade sanctions since 2019 have hit hard, forcing the company to develop its own Harmony OS after losing access to Android.

Stay tuned, because this tech showdown is just heating up!

Huawei officially launched its HUAWEI Women Developers (HWD) program, which aims to empower women developers to lead in the creation of applications and tools that will change the world.

The program is intended to encourage more women to join in technological innovation by providing participants with more opportunities and platforms for career development and skill training. The program is open to women developers from around the world. The application process which is currently on-going is through the HUAWEI Developers official website.

Huawei states in the announcement that, in the digital era, more opportunities and support must be given to women to ensure they have access to the education and training that they need to be fundamentally competitive in the digital economy. Equipping women with these skills has proven to promote social integration and inclusive and diversified societies.

Huawei Senior Vice President Chen Lifang said: “We believe that women will lead technological innovation. We hope that the HUAWEI Women Developers program will help women better leverage their talents and unique value, and give them opportunities to demonstrate their leadership abilities. This will help make our world a better place.”

The HUAWEI Women Developers program is the newest initiative that Huawei has taken as part of its commitment to promoting gender equality. The program will provide participants with training on technological innovation and career development paths, along with opportunities to meet with experts in cutting-edge technologies from various fields and to participate in hands-on scenario-based experiments and drills. Huawei hopes to create a special community for women developers on the HUAWEI Developers platform and organize a series of online and offline events.

HUAWEI says that it wants to create a platform for women developers where they can exchange ideas, where they can be armed with both theoretical and practical knowledge to help them pick new skills.

Through its existing Shining-Star program, Huawei also offers women developers special incentives to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship. Participants from this program who develop outstanding projects with big potential will have the opportunity to be featured in future campaigns and invited to other official Huawei events.

To date, Huawei has successfully launched similar digital skill training programs for women in many countries including Ireland, Argentina, Bangladesh, Kenya, and South Africa. Over 30% of trainees in Huawei’s other ICT training programs, such as Seeds for the Future, are women.

Technology firm Huawei has committed to providing training to 377 trainees under the Presidential Digital Talent Programme (PDTP) in partnership with the ICT Authority of Kenya.

The five-week virtual training kicks off today and will provide digital training courses on Networking, Cloud and Artificial Intelligence. Under the programme, 246 trainees’ will take the Networking course while 131 students will take the Cloud and Artificial Intelligence Courses.

During the kick-off meeting, Fiona Pan, Huawei’s Deputy CEO Public Affairs, noted that “Huawei will continue to support local ICT talent development initiatives. Investing in Kenya’s digital skills training is not only part of our Corporate Social Responsibility but is also our duty as an organization to work together with government and other stakeholders to address the digital skills gap,”

Huawei remains committed to forging partnerships that seek to empower and educate the next generation. This has been achieved by developing and providing digital skills training programs focusing on scaling up skill development. The training focuses on advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, the Internet of Things and basic digital literacy under the Huawei Digitruck program.

There has been the rapid deployment of various advanced and emerging technologies in the recent past, including the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Cloud Computing. As a result, a new set of skills is required. Additionally, building capacity and skills necessary for the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) is critical for Kenya and the continent to embrace digital transformation.

The ICT Authority has prioritized ICT skill development among youth to cater to the ever-growing demand for competent ICT specialists and engineers while ensuring that they can compete equally with counterparts from across the globe whilst taking advantage of the ever-increasing opportunities presented.

The PDTP training aims to address the skill gap by building capacity and developing local ICT skills and talent while equipping the trainees with knowledge on cutting edge technology paramount for the 4IR.

The training will be conducted by certified Huawei trainers, with the students having access to training resources, including Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and e-Labs. Trainees who will complete the training successfully will receive HCIA Datacom v1.0, HCIA- Cloud Computing v4.0 and HCIA AI v3.0 certifications.

Since 2015, Huawei has been supporting the Presidential Digital Talent Programme providing private sector internships, mentorship and training in addition to the annual innovation awards. To date, over 1000 trainees have received training and certifications. In 2018, the PDTP Huawei Training was conducted at Zetech University and in 2019 at Kenyatta University, courtesy of the Huawei ICT Academy Program. This year, Huawei will complete the training and certification online.
