Safaricom Ups the Ante in Internet Speeds Amidst Rising Competition

In response to the increasing competition from providers like Elon Musk’s Starlink, which offers up to 200 Mbps at only Ksh 6,500, Safaricom has significantly enhanced its internet speeds for both home and business customers. This move aims to meet the growing demands of individual and enterprise users.

Home Fibre Upgrades

Safaricom has introduced a new ultra-fast 1000Mbps (Gigabit per second) Platinum plan for home users, priced at KES 20,000 monthly.

This makes Safaricom the first provider to deliver Giga speeds for home internet in Kenya, catering to heavy users such as gamers, content creators, and those using virtual reality applications.

Current customers will automatically be upgraded to the enhanced packages to enjoy faster speeds.

Plan Old Speed New Speed Price (KES)
Bronze 10 Mbps 15 Mbps 2,999
Silver 20 Mbps 30 Mbps 4,100
Gold 40 Mbps 80 Mbps 6,299
Diamond 100 Mbps 500 Mbps 12,499
Platinum – 1000 Mbps 20,000

Additionally, Safaricom has launched the Family Share plan, an integrated solution combining mobile voice, data, SMS, and home internet into a single plan.

This plan can be shared with up to five household members, offering up to a 20% discount on the Bronze plan compared to purchasing Fibre and voice/data plans separately.

Enhancements for Enterprise Customers

For enterprise customers, Safaricom has revamped its Business Fibre plans, introducing new speeds of up to 1 Gbps for Medium and Large Enterprises, alongside increased speeds for Micro and Small Enterprises.

These plans include features such as 24/7 proactive monitoring, network visibility, burstability, backup options, static IP support, embedded security, and an impressive 99.99% uptime.

  • 15 Mbps Shared Plan: Ideal for micro businesses with up to five concurrent users/devices. Includes 5GB of mobile backup data and 400 minutes of voice plan monthly.
  • 50 Mbps Shared Plan: Designed for small enterprises, accommodating up to 15 concurrent users. Includes 15GB of mobile backup data and a Closed User Group voice plan for up to three users.
  • 100 Mbps Shared Plan: Supports up to 50 users/devices, offering robust performance for growing enterprises. Includes 15GB of mobile backup data and a Closed User Group voice plan for up to three users.

New customers on these shared business plans will also receive a one-time offer of a 30GB mobile data bundle and a free email & website domain for the first year.

Safaricom says it is committed to enhancing customer experience by carrying out estate clinics, increasing capacity in congested areas, and offering competitive 4G and 5G propositions for homes outside fibre coverage.

Over the last financial year, Safaricom expanded its Fibre footprint by over 3,000 kilometers, resulting in more than 370,000 homes and 32,000 businesses now connected to fast and reliable internet.
