Mawingu, a rural Internet Service Provider (ISP) in Kenya, continues its mission to bridge the digital divide with the expansion of its network to Mandera County.

This latest development brings the total number of connected counties to 30, solidifying Mawingu’s commitment to providing reliable and affordable internet access to underserved communities.

This announcement comes as part of Mawingu’s second H2 2024 progress update, highlighting the company’s aggressive expansion strategy.

“Mawingu marks yet another milestone towards our long-term vision of making meaningful connectivity accessible to more Kenyans at very competitive price points,” said Farouk Ramji, CEO of Mawingu.

Investing in Infrastructure for Enhanced Connectivity

Beyond expanding its reach, Mawingu is also investing in improving the quality of its existing network. The company will be laying over 30 kilometers of fiber optic cable in Garissa County to enhance connectivity and deliver a superior internet experience for its users.

“Our progressive expansion into more counties across Kenya, with a focus on providing meaningful Internet to these unserved and underserved areas has been largely informed by key learnings and strategic insights,” added Ramji.

Mawingu: A Driving Force in Rural Connectivity

Founded in 2012, Mawingu has become a leading force in connecting rural and peri-urban communities in Kenya.

With a network of 175 towers and a diverse transmission fabric utilizing wireless, fiber, and smart green-energy technology, Mawingu has connected over 19,500 homes and businesses across the country.

By offering a range of internet packages tailored to the needs of homes, small businesses, and large enterprises, Mawingu is hoping to democratize access to information, commerce, entertainment, and social connections. The company has a goal of positively impacting 1,000,000 East Africans by 2028.
