Global smart device frontrunner, OPPO, has recently unveiled its ambitious plans to infuse the OPPO Reno11 Series with cutting-edge generative AI capabilities by Q2 2024.

This move includes the introduction of the trailblazing OPPO AI Eraser function among others, signaling a crucial milestone in OPPO’s quest to spearhead AI technology and democratize its access for users across the globe.

The Emergence of AI Smartphones

Pete Lau, Chief Product Officer at OPPO, envisages that after the reign of feature phones and smartphones, AI smartphones will usher in the third major paradigm shift in the mobile phone industry.

“The advent of AI smartphones will bring about seismic changes in both the mobile phone industry and the user experience,” Lau stated. “OPPO is committed to playing a pivotal role in the evolution and promotion of AI smartphones. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with our industry peers to collectively propel mobile phone industry innovation and redefine the intelligent mobile phone experience,” he says.

AndesGPT: OPPO’s Large Language Model

OPPO has launched its proprietary large language model, AndesGPT, which boasts an impressive 180 billion parameters. It is anchored on three primary technical attributes: dialogue enhancement, personalization, and cloud-device collaboration.

Its capabilities are centered around knowledge, memory, tools, and creation. The debut of OPPO’s generative AI features such as intelligent object removal in photos and phone conversation summary on the new OPPO Find X7 series has sparked intrigue among end users and the broader tech industry alike.

OPPO’s Vision for AI

As AI is poised to radically transform smartphones and their surrounding ecosystems, OPPO is paving the way in implementing the latest AI technologies on smart devices.

Consistent with OPPO’s brand mission of “Technology for Mankind, Kindness for the World”, OPPO aims to broaden its own generative AI capabilities to more product lines and markets.

By Q2 2024, OPPO intends to launch a suite of generative AI features, including OPPO AI Eraser and more, to its Reno 11 series worldwide.

Driven by relentless innovation from the OPPO AI center, future OPPO smartphone generations will be equipped with even more thrilling AI features.

The Horizon of AI Smartphones

In anticipation of the AI smartphone era, OPPO will be focusing on four key areas for its AI smartphones:

  • Harnessing computing resources to cater to the computational demands of generative AI in the AI era
  • Real-time awareness of the real world through sensors, interpreting complex user and environmental information
  • Robust self-learning capabilities.
  • Multimodal content generation abilities, offering users ongoing inspiration and knowledge support.

These unique traits suggest that the emergence of AI smartphones will disrupt the mobile industry. A range of AI services will be integrated into intelligent agents, allowing users to benefit from services tailored to their individual needs.

To facilitate the adoption and integration of AI into its products, OPPO has announced the establishment of an AI Center.

Through dedicated research and development into AI and its applications, the new Center aims to further strengthen OPPO’s AI capabilities and explore a broader range of user-centric AI products and features that will enable OPPO to bring users the latest experiences at the forefront of AI.
