Safaricom has also introduced 5G data bundles personalized based on usage to enable its over 400,000 customers using 5G smartphones to browse at ultra-fast speeds, with typical speeds ranging from 400Mbps to 700Mbps.
Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom PLC, is enthusiastic about the potential of 5G to bridge the digital divide, improve access to essential services such as healthcare, and drive economic growth by connecting small businesses to new opportunities.
“We are excited about a 5G future, which makes it possible to close the digital divide in underserved communities, provide access to critical services such as healthcare, or spur economic growth by connecting small businesses to new opportunities,” said Ndegwa.
Safaricom has consistently invested in its network over the years, with its 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G in aggregate covering 97% of Kenya’s population, while its fibre network has passed over 450,000 homes and businesses.
Other areas in major towns are set to benefit from the ultra-fast internet connectivity. Kisumu residents can expect 5G coverage in Kiboswa, Lower Riat Estate, Mamboleo, and Maseno, as well as the CBD, Bus Station, and Old Town areas.
In Mombasa, 5G coverage will be available in Mtwapa, Mariakani, Kongowea, and Nyali, as well as the CBD and Old Town areas. Nakuru will also see 5G coverage in Naivasha CBD and Lakeview, Nakuru CBD, Kabarak, and Pipeline Barnabas.
Kajiado and Machakos will see 5G coverage in areas such as Ngong Town, Athi River, and Kitengela, among others. These new coverage areas will further empower homes and businesses in Kenya with access to fast and reliable internet connectivity.
With the expansion of its 5G network, Safaricom is enhancing Kenya’s best internet network and empowering its customers to start exploring the possibilities of 5G.
