Safaricom’s Home Fibre services will no longer be unlimited beginning 1st March 2021. In new terms and conditions affecting Home Fibre and 4G Home Plans, Safaricom has introduced data caps for all their bundles.
Customers on Bronze package who currently get monthly unlimited speeds of 8mbps will now only be able to access the speeds they pay for until their consumption reaches 500GB. After that, the speeds will be reduced to 1mbps. Silver, Gold and Platinum packages subscribers will have their speeds reduced to 3mbps upon consuming 1,000 GB of data.
The revised terms and conditions say that up to four units will share a single connection.
Customers will be allocated Internet speeds with a 1:4 contention (a maximum of 4 houses can use the same connection).

Safaricom is yet to issue an official statement regarding the new terms, even as the development continues to brew storm online. Responding to tweets from users, the official Safaricom Customer Care Twitter handle says the average home internet user only consumes 350 GB of data in a month without any reference to the source of that data.
Far from the truth. The average user hits 350 GB in a month unless you are in the business of reselling, we are all good.^FO

The new terms however comes with some good news for subscribers living outside Safaricom Home Fibre zones but would require home internet. The telco will from March be selling 4G routers at their Safaricom shops countrywide.
The routers can be purchased from any Safaricom Shop or from selected dealers countrywide. The 4G router will come with a designated 4G SIM Card.
