KISUMU, 25TH MAY 2020: Three people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Kisumu. According to a statement released on Monday by Kisumu Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, the three have already been taken into isolation.

The first two cases are truck drivers who got into the country from South Sudan via Uganda and Busia border post.

” The first two cases, both male, aged 29 years and 82 years, are long-distance truck drivers who were intercepted by the Public Health Surveillance teams having traveled from South Sudan and Uganda respectively through Busia Border Control on Saturday 23rd May 2020,” read a statement released by the Governor’s office.

The two are currently being isolated at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu.

The third case is of a 33-year-old lady who had travelled with 19 other people from Nairobi to attend a funeral in Kisumu.

“The third case, a 33-year old female, was identified by our Public Health surveillance team having traveled with 19 other persons from Nairobi to attend a funeral in Nyando Sub-County on Saturday 23rd May 2020. All the 20 were screened and tested for COVID-19. This case, having traveled back to Nairobi, has been referred to Nairobi Metropolitan surveillance teams and is currently in an isolation facility,” the statement continued.

Health officials are now actively tracing the contacts of the three cases. So far, no resident of Kisumu has tested positive to COVI-19.

On the national front, 72 more people have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing total confirmed cases in Kenya to 1,286, Health Chief Administrative Secretary Mercy Mwangangi said in the latest update.
