NAIROBI, 26TH NOVEMBER 2019: KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has introduced the latest version of the Boeing 787-10 aircraft on the Amsterdam- Nairobi route.

This, as the airline, embarks on a global campaign to phase out Boeing 747 from its fleet by mid-2021 in favor of the more fuel-efficient, environmentally friendly and state of the art latest version of the Boeing 787-10.

In line with KLM’s sustainability goals which includes taking care of the environment, KLM has always been committed to driving a sustainable future for aviation. We have a proven track record and are continuously investing and innovating to make our products and processes more sustainable. The 787- 10 is one of the most sustainable aircraft in our fleet, with 40-45 % more fuel-efficient compared to the Boeing 747. With this, we are also reducing our carbon footprints by 20%.

We innovate with our customers in mind, with this Dreamliner, all cabins both World Business Class and Economy have been refurbished to give maximum comfort to our customers. The aircraft features a smart design, larger windows and a spacious interior with the familiar KLM look and feel, designed in cooperation with Dutch designer Hella Jongerius. A mood lighting system ensures a natural transition between day and night. It has WiFi and USB outlets and in World Business Class power outlets with each seat. These WBC seats are of a new generation; the full-flat seats have direct aisle access and offer lots of personal space. Additionally, it produces less noise both internally and externally as well as less inflight pressure enhancing customers’ comfort, making it suitable for long-haul flights.

The move makes Kenya the second destination in KLM’s African region to receive the new aircraft after Tanzania in July this year. Underscoring the airline’s confidence in the future growth prospects of Africa.KLM is the first European carrier to fly this new type of aircraft, cementing its position as a pioneer in aviation. It is one of the airlines that continues to make a positive impact in Africa and beyond

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines’ Senior Purser Rien v.d. Meer (Left) engages the General Manager for Eastern Africa region Mr. Arthur Dieffenthaler (center) and Captain Kim-van Veen. KLM has started flying the latest Dreamliner 787-10 to Nairobi.

At the airport to welcome the flight was KLM General Manager for Eastern Africa region Mr. Arthur Dieffenthaler among other guests. “KLM has been flying for a century now, and half of that time, we have been flying to Kenya. The region remains special to us and is a strategic hub in Africa. As such, we look forward to the next 50 years and more flying to this exciting destination, famous the world over for its scenic beauty, unique culture, welcoming people and long history as the Cradle of Mankind,” said Mr. Dieffenthaler

Based on our long history of being in aviation since our establishment in 1919 and cutting-edge technology, we continuously invest in enriching our customer experience from the first step of purchasing the ticket. We have also invested heavily in our hub Schipol to give our customers the needed comfort in our lounges and seamlessly connect East Africa to the world.

‘We look forward to exciting times ahead and we remain confident,” Concluded Mr. Dieffenthaler.
