At least 43 drivers are expected to fight it out on Saturday during the 8th round of the 2016 Kenya National Rally Championships in Naivasha.
The KCB Guru Nanak Rally has attracted a number of regional drivers among them three Tanzanians Gurjit Dhani (Subaru Impreza GVB15), Rajpal Dhani (Subaru Impreza GVB15) and Ajminder Dhani driving an Impreza N10.
Tapio Laukannen, the 2016 KNRC leader will have Gavin Laurence as his new navigator, after his compatriot Pasi Torma withdrew citing personal commitments.
The season-closing KCB Guru Nanak Rally will rev off at the KCB Naivasha branch with the competitors tackling 6 stages before heading back to Nairobi for the prize giving ceremony at the Sikh Union.
Speaking during the official launch of the rally, KCB Logistics Director Logistics James Asiko said: “The season has been captivating with various drivers showcasing their unique navigating skills. With this, motorsports has reached new heights going with the level of competition, the fan-base and impact on communities.”
KCB Bank is set to step down as the title sponsor to become the Official Banking Partner for the 2017 Motorsports season, marking a new era for the 13 years of a successful sponsorship.
As the curtains come down on one of the toughest and most prestigious event on the KCB calendar, six times Kenyan champion Ian Duncan will be going for an unprecedented 14th Guru Nanak title wary of the challenge posed by last year’s winner Tapio Laukannen who beat him by a 1.11 minutes margin.
Top Kenyans expected in the outing are Jaspreet Chatthe, Carl “Flash” Tundo powering a Proto Ford Fiesta, Ian Duncan with an Evolution X , Manvir Baryan, Onkai Rai and Baldev Chager in the speed for glory.
Hundreds of spectators are expected to gather at the ceremonial start venue to wave off competitors outside the KCB Naivasha Branch, along the route, at Kikopeey, Aberdare Hills Golf and the Sosyambu Conservancy a favorite for fans. The Buffalo Mall, Naivasha will be the Rally Headquarters which will host the scrutineering and drivers briefing.
