Every woman dreams of a Victorian wedding – the glittering gown and the horse drawn chariot. Very few have had that in Kenya but quite a good number have just had a great wedding.
Then the weddings stopped.
Men are everyday losing interest in walking down the aisle arm in arm with the woman of his dreams. Life is everyday becoming more practical and men would rather spend money on a traditional ceremony and securing their families’ future than blow up cash on a fairy tale wedding. What a big blow to our women folk.
Not that first!
Women have found a replacement. Baby showers.
Baby showers are the new weddings and women go to great lengths to outdo each other or rather make theirs the most memorable ones.
Kisumu has had it’s fair share of baby showers and here are some of the few that stood out – and we are not comparing!
Polite Sweetness
One of the most memorable baby showers I have heard of in Kisumu. Was a complete surprise party by her friends at Club Da Place. The theme was white denim with ankara. The cake was done by Authentique Cakes (Barbara Cynthia Amondi). Decor by Kisumu Arthouse and food by Club Da Place.
Verah was blessed with a baby boy a month ago.

Alidade Rangita
Baby shower was held about three months ago at the Kogelo Retreat Villas in Milimani near Kisumu Museum. The theme for her baby showe was blue jeans and pink T-shirt. The cake was by May Makonyango and decor by Kisumu Arthouse. Catering was provided by Lydiah Ndege’s House of Tarah Events.
Alidade was blessed with a baby girl.

MC Darling
MC Darling is now a proud mother but before that she also had quite the baby shower. She chose home for venue and her cake was done by the only person she could trust best – her sister May Makonyango. The Decor was by Kisumu Arthouse and who else could do the food but House of Tarah Events!

Also mother to one of Kisumu’s celebrity babies. Her baby shower was also pretty recent and was held at Sovereign Hotel in Milimani. The theme was blue with a touch of white. Her cake was done by Authentique Cakes (barbara Cynthia Amondi).
