Madtraxx, Mejja and Kid Kora – make up The Kansoul – one of Kenya’s most loved afro pop and genge groups. The hitmakers famed for club bangers like Moto Wa Kuotea Mbali and Dabotap will make their debut on Coke Studio Africa this year, paired with top Mozambican singer Lizha James.

The Kansoul and Lizha James were on Thursday (18th August 2016) unveiled at a Nairobi Coke Studio Africa press conference held at the Sarova Stanley Hotel. They were joined by Dela and Bahati – other Kenyan artistes set to feature on the show’s upcoming fourth season.

Speaking on The Kansoul’s involvement on the show, Madtraxx praised Coca-Cola’s flagship African music show, saying, “Many people don’t understand what Coke Studio Africa is trying to do. Coke is more than just a drink, and this show is more than the music – it’s a movement and a lifestyle”. No doubt 2016 is a big year for The Kansoul. They also announced at the presser that the group’s debut album “Utamu Wa Life” will be released later this year.

The Kansoul and Lizha James collaborations will be produced by Ugandan music producer Bushingtone. Madtraxx will additionally be working on the show as a producer. He will be tasked with producing Bushingtone’s long-term collaborators Radio & Weasel, Eddy Kenzo and Ghana’s BET Award winner Stonebwoy, among other artistes.

Lizha James was also ecstatic about her first time of Coke Studio Africa, praising her collaborators: “The Kansoul are [such a tight unit]. Even when things go wrong, they always smile and got everyone’s back. They are also very talented and humble and I am honoured to work with them.”

Madtraxx asserted that The Kansoul’s tracks with Lizha James will emerge the biggest collaboration Africa has witnessed between Kenya and Mozambique. Dela and Bahati also spoke on their upcoming feature on Coke Studio Africa 4. Dela said, “I was very happy with my collaborations with Patoranking and Vanessa Mdee – Vanessa really brought it just the way I wished it to turn out to be,” adding, “It’s my second time of Coke Studio Africa, since my debut on season one. The show has really grown and you will discover all the [twists and turns] when the show airs.”
