Ksh. 500,000 for a night at Acacia Hotel, this is why

Last year it was the Mara Group owned Kempinski Hotel that shocked us with an overpriced valentines day dinner but this year it’s their little sister in Kisumu sending men the shock waves that might make February more miserable than the Godforsaken January.

Newly launched Acacia Premier Hotel, in Kisumu has announced a Valentine’s Day hospitality package that they claim is uniquely tailored to promote domestic tourism (sigh).

Acacia Premier will host the Ksh. 500,000 Lakeside Romance package, featuring a helicopter ride around Lake Victoria, an exclusive lunch set at the picturesque Maboko Island in the Winam Gulf of Lake Victoria with a yacht ride from the island to the hotel for a private dinner at the presidential suite (no, I did not get the digits wrong, neither is it in Tanzanian currency).

(Now if your wife or God forbid your mpango wa kando asks for this she wants you dead. You know Ksh. 500,000 can buy her a new Demio even with the new excise duty and you will have change.)

Let me not digress, Patrons taking up the two-night, tailor made Lakeside Romance package will also enjoy the services of a private butler (do you even know who that is?) and chef, a private guitarist (This is where you ask if they can lower the price if you carry your own music), complimentary couples massage and exciting gifts for the ladies.

According to Simba Corporation’s Chief Hospitality Officer, Nazir Khamisa, this package has been designed to celebrate the unique tourism sites around Lake Victoria to further boost domestic tourism (who goes on tour when it costs a freaking Ksh. 500,ooo for a day! We all are not relatives of the eurobond traders!!).

“At Acacia, we make ordinary days extraordinary, we want to illustrate that sentiment through our special Valentine’s Day celebrations for guests this year. With this unique offer, we will definitely raise the bar not only in the western region, but in Kenya as a whole” said Mr. Khamisa.

The hotel will at the same time offer other creative, exciting packages for those looking for a one-of-a-kind Valentine’s Day experience. The packages will include gifts, entertainment, exclusive dinners and lavish accommodations at the hotel for the superior suites as well as luxurious boat rides for the bay suites (When Ksh. 500,000 is called an offer, exciting packages will not be that friendly either so tame your excitement).

“We want to ensure everyone (another sigh) can access comfortable packages within their means and have the best experience,” said Duncan Mwangi, the General Manager, Acacia Premier.

Guest and customers at the Hotel will all be treated to a live music performance and comedy on Valentine’s Day as well (This is where you ask if you can bring your R.Kelly and Dolly Parton CDs for a discount).

Simba Corporation plans to have a unique proposition by setting up mid-priced hotels under the “Acacia Premier” and “Acacia Express” brands. Plans are also at an advanced stage for the groundbreaking of an Acacia Express unit in Naivasha in the coming months ahead of a projected full scale rollout of Acacia Premier and Acacia Express hotels in the East Africa region.
