Cycling Out of Poverty Foundation for Africa (Coop Africa), is a Dutch NGO now operating in six African countries namely: Ghana, Bukina Faso, Togo, Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya. The NGO focuses on alleviation of poverty through bicycle interventions with primary focus on access to healthcare (Bike4Care Project), education (Bike4School project), micro-enterprise (Bike4Work project) and environmental conservation (Bike2Clean Project) and Eco-tourism (Bike2rism).
As a means of creating funds for the various projects that the organization is implementing in Kenya, Coop Africa in partnership with Cycling in Afrika (K) LTD has ventured into the tourism business with a key focus on Bicycle Tourism in the western circuit. The organization’s Executive Director Mr. Luuk Eickmans indicated to Kisumu Vybes that their organization is keen on promoting bicycle tourism in the country.
In addition to cycling around town to sites of interests such as Maasai market, Kisumu Museum, Impala Park and Dunga Beach, the new tour firm Known as Bike Ventures will also be incorporating cycling in their long distance tours which will also involve the use of tour vans. “We are not saying that our organization is all about cycling but we want to make it an integral part of the packages we are offering. This will mean that we select in our itinerary part of the routs where it will be comfortable for our clients to cycle” added Mr. Eickmans.
The Bike Ventures’ website with details on the packages on offer is still under construction but more information could be found by visiting their office located at Jommo Kenyatta sports ground (od mikayi) or by calling the Manager on 0708627649.
