It was a day like today nine years ago when the Nakuru – Naivasha Highway robbed us of a youthful talent that was charting the way for Kenyan musician. Isah Mmari commonly known to his fans as E-Sir was on his way from an electrifying show he had just had in Nakuru with his Ogobpa Deejays stable mate come friend Nameless whom they had just done the then popular Boomba Train party anthen with.

The news of his death came as a shock to his fans and fellow celebrities in the entertainment industry. Back then I was just in form three and I remember how painful the demise of this rising star was to me and fellow colleagues at Kisumu Boys’ High School.

We vividly remembered his electrifying performance just a year before at Kisumu Beach Resort at a gig organized by House of Funk Entertainment leaving hundreds of fans who thronged the event asking for more.

Today thousands of Kenyans on social media paid tribute to the star with R.I.P messages as they reminded each other of his popular club bangers like: his posthumous collabo with Nameless Maisha, Leo ni leo, Hamnitishi (which many claim that he was singing about his own death), Si Usare, Kamata ft Mr. Lenny, Moss moss ft Brenda and many other collabos that he did with his Pirates unit that included the late K-rupt, Big Pin, Manga and his little brother Habib.

Here is just a sample of the trubutes from twitter:

Nonini had this to say: Nonini Mgenge True! ‏ @Noninimusic

Sure Rogers:RIP to my man Issah Mmari… One of the best to ever touched the MIC locally. Check his album out on http://www.knoxnation.com #RIPEsir

Rayrae Smart Bravo ‏ @Deejaysgurl: @OmindeNiMimi Navuta more crowdz than @DjSwayjulu Rainbow alliance, wakiuliza sema #RIPEsir

Mwongela Kamencu: Ni Esir.. pewa mbili kwenye Kichwa, lyrical tongue twister, na Mister, K.I swahili ni nani yuko na shida na mimi…. #RIPESIR

Brian Gacheru ‏ @bkahiga:#RIPESir Lyrical Tongue Twister #Pion

And from Kisumu we say R.I.P E-Sir tonight at Quorum Club and Barcadia Lounge with the best mixx of his music with the usual suspects in the house, see you then.

You can follow the tributes on twitter using the hash tag #RIPESIR . He was a legend indeed
